Mrs. Arnett’s counselling approach is eclectic. She employs the underlying principles of therapy – active listening, relationship, communication, collaboration, and Freud’s notion of free association are in her repertoire of skills. Overall, she believes that each individual is responsible for their choices. A quote that she practices by is: “I have set before you life and death… choose life.”
“The mutative force in therapy is not intellectual insight, not interpretation,
not catharsis, but is, instead, a deep, authentic meeting between two people.”
— Irvin Yalom
